By Heléne Geyser, 8 November 2026, 7 minute read

If you’re skimming

  • Open to the public on weekends and public holidays, 10:00 to 17:00. Ticket sales stop at 14:30 and no booking is needed (checked 7 November 2026).
  • Tickets: R150 adults, R100 children, R450 for a family of two adults and two children. The venue says to budget at least two hours.

Honeydew Mazes is an outdoor maze park in Johannesburg, open to the public on weekends and public holidays, that also hosts school outings, kids’ parties and corporate team building. Joburg Tourism describes it as “an intricate labyrinth crafted from indigenous reed fencing”. Basically, you pay to get lost on purpose, and somehow it’s fun.

This page is for parents planning a Saturday, teachers looking at an outing and anyone who’s been promised “just one more turn”. We’re an independent local guide, not the venue. For bookings and the latest news, go to the official Honeydew Mazes website.

What Is Honeydew Mazes?

The venue’s site describes the Elemental Maze as a maze that takes you through the four elements, fire, water, earth and air, with five themed secret gardens and a 15 station quiz trail (Honeydew Mazes). The venue says the maze challenge is age appropriate and suits visitors of all ages. Gauteng Tourism adds that the giant Elemental Maze holds 150 or more players, and describes a courtyard puzzle called the Green Maze as “a very tricky small maze made from indigenous plants”.

If you remember the giant mielie maze, you’re not imagining it. The venue says it ran its maize maze 17 times, in a 120,000 m2 field of mielies with nearly 3 km of paths, and has replaced it because of the field’s limited lifespan and changing Joburg weather (Honeydew Mazes). When we checked on 7 November 2026, the site said a living hedge maze of 4,000 plants was “under construction” on the same field, and that it hopes to open it to the public towards the end of 2026 (Honeydew Mazes). Hedges take longer than mielies, so confirm with the venue before you go.

Planning Your Visit

Where Is It and How Do You Get There?

The official contact page gives the address as 82 Boland Street, Randburg 2169, with a map pin at -26.0542413, 27.9020511 (Honeydew Mazes). Joburg Tourism lists it as 82 Boland Rd, Zandspruit 191-IQ, Johannesburg, and the venue itself trades under the Honeydew name.

About the naming: it’s the same place. Honeydew is the brand, Randburg is the postal town on the official address, and Zandspruit is the name Joburg Tourism uses. Even Honeydew itself gets filed under both Roodepoort and Randburg, depending on who you ask (Newpoint Property; SA-Venues). Put the map pin in your GPS rather than the suburb name and you’ll be fine. Parking is free (Honeydew Mazes).

Hours

As listed on the official site on 7 November 2026 (Honeydew Mazes):

  • Open to the public: weekends and public holidays, no booking needed.
  • Hours: 10:00 to 17:00.
  • Ticket sales stop at 14:30.
  • Time to allow: the venue says to budget at least two hours to explore the Giant Maze.

That 14:30 cut off is the one to remember. Arrive at 15:00 and you’ll be admiring the reed fence from the car park. The office line is staffed Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00, on 073 795 2174, and the venue notes that the phone isn’t answered when it’s busy with a group. Email is [email protected] (Honeydew Mazes). Confirm before you go.

Tickets and Prices

Checked 7 November 2026 (Honeydew Mazes):

Ticket Price
Adults R150
Children R100
Family (2 adults, 2 children) R450
School outings R120 per learner, teachers free, minimum R3,500 per outing
Corporate team building From R300 per person, excluding catering

The site doesn’t give an age band for the children’s ticket, so ask if you’re unsure. School outings are for Grades R to 12 and need advance booking, with a preferred Giant Maze capacity of 150 learners; corporate events need booking too (Honeydew Mazes). Kids’ party packages are offered, but the site doesn’t list party prices. Confirm everything before you go.

Kids, Picnics and What to Bring

The venue describes itself as picnic friendly and suitable for all ages (Honeydew Mazes). The site doesn’t list toilets, a kiosk, accessibility details or a pet policy, so if any of those matter, phone or email first.

The Moonlight Maze

The Moonlight Maze is a night time session where you find your way through the giant maze by torchlight. It runs on the last Saturday of the month, 17:30 to 21:00, and costs R150 per adult and R120 per child (checked 7 November 2026, confirm before you go). These are pre-paid, pre-booked events with limited numbers, and all ages are welcome (Honeydew Mazes). The schedule is set by the venue and can change.

The venue suggests bringing comfortable walking shoes, a torch and a table lantern, a picnic snack, camping chairs, a cooler bag, bug spray and marshmallows for the bonfire (Honeydew Mazes). Check the site for the next date before you buy the marshmallows.

Make a Day of It

Because ticket sales stop at 14:30, the mazes suit a morning stop. Then:

Where to eat: you can picnic at the mazes (Honeydew Mazes). In Honeydew, Blueberry Square has “an appealing selection of eateries” (RNS). See also our breakfast in Muldersdrift guide.
