Terms of Use
Last updated: 7 November 2026
Important: please read sections 3, 12 and 13 carefully. They explain that listings may be inaccurate, limit our liability to you, and require you to cover us for certain claims and costs. By agreeing to these terms, you confirm that you have read and accept them.
These terms apply to everyone who uses mywestrand.co.za: visitors, businesses with a listing, and advertisers. By using the site, adding or claiming a listing, or booking an advert, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
When you tick the “I agree” box when adding or claiming a listing, booking an advert, or on any of our forms, you confirm that you have read and accept these terms, including sections 3, 12 and 13 on accuracy, our liability and your indemnity, and our Privacy & Cookie Policy.
These terms also apply to My West Rand’s social media pages, groups and newsletters.
Age. My West Rand is intended for people aged 18 and over. You must be at least 18 to add or claim a listing, book an advert, post reviews or comments, subscribe to the newsletter or enter competitions. Anyone younger should use the site only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission.

2. What My West Rand is
My West Rand is a free online local guide to the West Rand, with a business directory, events and articles. We are not part of any deal between you and a listed business. My West Rand is owned by Frenzii, a marketing agency. Some listed businesses may be Frenzii clients, and Frenzii may promote its own services here. Where that happens, we say so, and Frenzii is not responsible for any other business’s products, services or conduct.
3. Directory information: please check before you rely on it
Listings are put together from three kinds of sources:
-
publicly available information, such as business websites, social media pages, online maps and public directories;
-
information that businesses or members of the public send us;
-
our own research and visits.
Businesses open, close, move and change their hours, prices and contact details all the time. We do not check or guarantee that any listing, event, price, opening time, menu, offer or contact detail is accurate, complete or up to date. Always confirm details directly with the business or event organiser before you rely on them, travel or pay.
-
Not an endorsement. A listing, ranking, badge, “featured” spot or article is not a recommendation or guarantee of that business, its quality, licences, safety or prices.
-
No vetting. We don’t check businesses’ registration, qualifications, insurance or legal compliance. Do your own checks, especially for trades, medical, financial and legal services.
-
Your dealings are with the business. Any agreement, payment, service, product, injury, loss or dispute is between you and that business. We are not responsible for what a listed business does or fails to do.
Not professional advice. Articles, guides and reviews are general information and opinion. They are not legal, financial, medical or other professional advice.
4. Listings: adding, claiming, correcting and removing
-
Basic listings are free. We may also add listings ourselves from public sources, without being asked.
-
Adding or claiming a listing. You confirm that you are the owner or are authorised to act for the business, and that what you send us is true, lawful and yours to share. We may ask for proof.
-
Your responsibility. Keep your listing up to date. You are responsible for its content, including any claims about your products, prices and qualifications.
-
Our rights. We may edit, shorten, format, categorise, refuse, suspend or remove any listing at any time, at our discretion and without notice.
-
Corrections and removal. If a listing about your business is wrong, or you want it removed, email [email protected] with the link. We aim to deal with it within 10 working days. This is the quickest way to fix any problem, and we ask that you use it before taking any other step.
Who can be listed. The directory is for businesses, organisations and events based in or serving the West Rand. We decide what counts as the West Rand and which categories a listing belongs in.
5. Articles and reviews
-
Our reviews are honest opinions. Restaurant reviews and articles reflect the writer’s genuine experience and opinion on the day. Your experience may differ.
-
Disclosure. If a business paid for an article, gave us a free meal, product or service, or is an advertiser, we say so clearly on that article (for example, “Sponsored” or “We were hosted by…”).
-
No paid praise. Businesses cannot pay for a positive review or to have a fair review removed. Sponsored content is labelled and kept separate from independent reviews.
-
Right of reply. If a business thinks an article is factually wrong, email us. We will correct real errors and may add a short response from the business.
6. Reviews, comments and other content you post
When we allow visitors to post reviews, comments, photos or event details, these rules apply:
-
Be honest. Only review a place based on your own genuine experience. No fake reviews, reviews of your own business or a competitor’s, or reviews written in exchange for payment, discounts, freebies or any other reward.
-
Be lawful. Nothing defamatory, hateful, threatening, obscene, misleading, private (such as someone’s personal phone number) or that infringes copyright.
-
Your responsibility. You are fully responsible for what you post. Views posted by users are theirs, not ours. We don’t check user content before it appears and are not liable for it.
-
Licence to us. You keep ownership of what you post, but you give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide, permanent and irrevocable licence to publish, edit, adapt and share it on our site, newsletter and social media, and to show it in marketing for My West Rand.
-
Moderation. We may edit, hide or remove any content, and block users, at our discretion.
Takedown notices. If you think content on the site is unlawful or infringes your rights, email [email protected] with “Takedown” in the subject line. Include: your name and contact details, the link to the content, what is wrong and why, and confirmation that your notice is true and made in good faith. We act on valid notices as section 77 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA) provides.
7. Events
Events are listed for information only. We don’t organise them unless we say so. Dates, prices, tickets and cancellations are the organiser’s responsibility, so check with them.
Competitions and giveaways. Each competition or giveaway we run, or run with a partner, has its own rules published with it. Those rules apply alongside these terms.
8. Advertising and paid placements
These terms apply to banner adverts, featured panels, category or area sponsorships, premium business pages, sponsored articles and any other paid placement.
-
Booking and payment. Prices are in rand and include VAT. Placements are paid upfront, online or on our invoice, and go live once payment clears and your material is approved.
-
Fixed term, no auto-renewal. Each placement runs for the period you book (1 to 12 months). It doesn’t renew automatically; we’ll contact you before it ends.
-
Cancellation. You can cancel for a full refund before your placement goes live. Once it is live, the booked period is not refundable, and we don’t refund unused time if you end it early.
-
Your advert content. You are responsible for your advert and confirm that it is true, lawful, not misleading, and that you have the rights to every logo, image and word in it. It must also follow the Advertising Regulatory Board’s Code. We may ask for changes, or refuse or remove any advert, and will refund the unused portion if we remove it for reasons that aren’t your fault.
-
No guarantees. We don’t guarantee views, clicks, leads or sales. Any traffic figures we share are estimates.
-
Labels. Paid placements are marked as “Sponsored”, “Advertisement” or “Featured”.
-
Our management. Frenzii manages all adverts and listings and may contact you directly about your advert, invoicing and payment.
What we won’t list or advertise. We don’t accept listings, adverts or sponsored content for:
-
escort, sexual or adult services, or adult content;
-
weapons, ammunition or explosives;
-
illegal drugs or anything else unlawful;
-
crypto, forex or trading schemes, pyramid schemes, multi-level marketing, “get rich quick” offers or anything misleading;
-
hate, discrimination or content that attacks people or groups;
-
medical or health claims, such as products or treatments said to cure, prevent or treat illness;
-
tobacco, vaping and e-cigarette products.
Needs our written approval first: alcohol, gambling, cannabis-related products, financial and investment services, and political or religious content. Any offer described as “free” must be genuinely free, with any conditions stated clearly. We may refuse or remove anything we consider inappropriate for a community audience.
9. Our intellectual property: no copying, no scraping
The site, its design, articles, reviews, photos, videos, graphics, logos, and the directory itself, are owned by Frenzii or our licensors. That includes how listings are selected, written, categorised and arranged. They are protected by the Copyright Act 98 of 1978 and other South African and international law.
You may:
-
view the site for your own personal, non-commercial use;
-
share links to pages;
-
quote a short extract, if you name My West Rand and link back to the page;
-
if you are a listed business, share a link to your own listing and the article about you.
You may not, without our written permission:
-
copy, scrape, harvest, extract or bulk-download listings, contact details, reviews or articles, by hand or with any software or bot;
-
use any content to build a competing directory, mailing list or database, or for cold calling or spam;
-
republish, frame, mirror, sell or license any content;
-
remove our watermarks or copyright notices.
Search engines and AI are welcome. Search engines, AI assistants and their crawlers (for example Google, Bing, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity) may crawl, index and use our pages, including for AI training. The scraping and copying we don’t allow is taking our content to republish it, build a competing directory or database, or send spam.
“My West Rand” and our logo are our trade marks. Breaking this section is a material breach, and we may claim damages, an interdict and our legal costs.
10. Using the site properly
Don’t try to hack, overload, disrupt or get unauthorised access to the site. Don’t impersonate anyone, submit false listings or use the site for anything unlawful. We may block anyone who breaks these terms.
Changes to the service. We may change, pause or stop any part of the site, any feature or type of listing or advert, or the whole site, at any time. If this affects a paid placement, we refund the unused portion.
11. Links to other websites
Listings and articles link to other websites and social media. We don’t control them, aren’t responsible for their content or practices, and a link isn’t an endorsement.
12. Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows:
-
the site and everything on it are provided “as is” and “as available”;
-
we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from relying on listings, articles, reviews, events, adverts or user content, or from dealing with any business or person you find through the site;
-
we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profit, data, opportunity or goodwill;
-
we are not liable if the site is unavailable, slow or contains errors or viruses, or for things outside our reasonable control;
-
our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 3 months before the claim arose, or R500 if you paid us nothing.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including for our gross negligence or under the Consumer Protection Act.
13. Your indemnity
You agree to cover us against any claims, losses, fines and reasonable legal costs that arise from content you submit (listings, adverts, reviews, photos), your breach of these terms, or your dealings with other users or businesses.
14. Privacy
How we handle personal information is explained in our Privacy & Cookie Policy.
15. Complaints
Email [email protected] with “Complaint” in the subject line. We aim to respond within 5 working days and to resolve it within 20 working days.
Talk to us first. If you have a dispute with us, you agree to raise it with us in writing and try in good faith to resolve it with us for at least 20 working days before going to mediation or court.
16. General
-
Changes. We may update these terms. The version on the site, with its “last updated” date, applies.
-
Law. South African law applies. You agree that the Magistrate’s Court with jurisdiction may hear any dispute, even if the amount is higher than its usual limit.
-
Severability. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
-
No waiver. If we don’t enforce a right straight away, we don’t lose it.
-
Electronic communication. You agree that emails, WhatsApp messages and online confirmations count as written communication.
